Sarah you are inside my brain!!!! When this article popped up I avoided clicking on it for a few days because it was too targeted ahaha but thank you for writing this! When I got drunk for the first time at 14 it felt like I’d discovered a magic potion. Last year at 29 I finally decided to confront my relationship with alcohol and goddamn that sucked. I tried the sober curious route and that was all good for a bit but inevitably I fell back into old habits because I can’t do moderation with anything. It’s been 3 months of proper sobriety for me and I am bored and incredibly boring to be around but I feel free. That you for sharing your story!
Omg I’m so happy to hear that Annabelle! Moderation is so hard for me too. And you’re not boring even though you may feel that way, sober people/people who are trying to connect to themselves are very cool and interesting and hot. I asked my husband if I was boring a LOT during the first year lol. Happy this could reach you when you were ready! 💕
Thank you for sharing. I would never qualify as an alcoholic, but I drank more than I wanted to (it was 1-2 beers a day). I gave that up two months ago and your first point hit home. Hard. It seems like everyone is always drinking; like it’s a requirement to be a functional part of culture.
It’s hard not to drink alcohol. Really, really hard. Even when you aren’t addicted to it. And no one cares when you give it up. Like it’s either easy (I could quit if I wanted) or stupid (everyone does it, it can’t be that bad).
I have no idea who you are, but you’ve accomplished something most people aren’t even willing to try. That makes you a pretty amazing person in my book. Keep it up.
I love your framed chips! This is a wonderful story of a story many don’t want to share.
Sharing your experience & especially the perception of how it relates to others is huge & so much of success in recovery. Thanks for listing the websites and books & options for meetings and for sharing wonderful you & your journey.

Absolutely lovely article. I left alcohol 3 years ago, best decision ever and now I'm facing into "sobriety" with emotional eating. It's all a journey.

LOVE Sober Diaries. I read it once a year or so.
Wife of a recovering alcoholic! Thank you for your vulnerability & work to break the stigma by your honesty. Brave! Keep going!
This is a great list Sarah. Happy 2+ years!
Honest and applicable. To anyone, I feel, including someone who is merely sober-curious. Thank you.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💕💕💕💕💕
Love your stories and what an overcomer you are! Keep shining bright like a 💎
Thank you for this gut wrenching and honest text. And congrats on achieving sobriety day by day. May I ask why you chose a male narrator for this one?
Oh, it’s from my POV! Did I say something that made you feel that?
No, it's just that I chose the audio option and it's a male narrator. I don't know if it's an option or automated?
Oh! I didn’t know that was an option at all - good to know, I may swap it over. 💕
